Easter Egg Cookies
|
|
You Need:
- Roll of premade sugar cookie dough (or your own sugar cookie recipe prepared)
- Flour
- 2-1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 4 tablespoons milk
- Food coloring
- Tools: rolling pin, egg or circle-shaped cookie cutters , waxed paper (optional)
|
PREPARATION:
Chill cookie dough. Follow manufacturer's instructions package of cookie dough for rolled out cookies. Roll out cookie dough to thickness recommended on package (using flour on dough, rolling surface and rolling pin to prevent sticking) and cut into Easter egg shapes.
Bake according to cookie package directions.
Cool cookies.
To make the frosting, mix together the powdered sugar, vanilla extract and milk. Stir until smooth. Divide into 4 small bowls. In the first bowl, add food coloring, a few drops at a time and stirring until desired color is reached. Choose a different color for each of the four bowls of frosting. We colored ours red, green, blue and yellow. Also include a different small spoon for each color and try not to mix the colors unless you want to: for example blue frosting and red frosting mixed together make purple frosting.
Cover your working surface with waxed paper for a easy cleanup. Using a small spoon spread colored frostings on as desired. Make each egg a separate color, mixed color or what ever you desire.
Four color swirl: spread a little of each of the four colors of frosting on cookies. Using a separate swirling spoon* , dip tip of spoon into frosting on cookie's surface and swirl around for desired effect. Then turn the cookie 1/4 turn and swirl again (see illustrations)
Drizzles: spread one color of frosting over cookie surface. Using a different color frosting, drizzle it over cookie and move around to make squiggly lines. Repeat this with a variety of colors.
Two Color Stars: spread one color of frosting over cookie surface. Using a different color frosting, spread a different color circle at center of cookie. Starting at center of cookie dip spoon into the frosting and pull the spoon through the frosting toward the edge. Repeat this a number of times around the circle.
Four Color Stars: spread one color of frosting over cookie surface. Using a different color frosting, drizzle different color circles at center and outward on cookie (in this example the base color is pink then the green was added at center and the yellow and then the blue were drizzled on). Starting at center of cookie dip spoon into the frosting and pull the spoon through the frosting toward the edge. Repeat this a number of times around the circle. And to finish off, give a little circular swirl in the center.
Two color: spread one color of frosting on half the cookie and another color of frosting on the other half; using clean 'swirling spoon' dip spoon into frosting on cookie and swirl spoon back and forth just a little bit where colors meet.
Let cookies dry thoroughly or they will tend to stick together when stacked. This may take a few hours. Store in sealed container in cool place.
Makes about 24 - 3x4" cookies.
*(The 'swirling spoon' is only for swirling, do not put it into any of the bowls of frosting or it may change their colors)
